Energy efficiency and the rational use of resources have become a priority for Protim, which is constantly committed to optimizing its various production processes and the work environment.
Along this path, investments have been made to promote the use of clean alternative energy sources, necessary for the development of its business and useful for reducing emissions, aiming for a zero-impact company.
Solar Evaporation Project
Thanks to participation in the call for proposals for industrial research and experimental development projects in the energy efficiency sector (ERDF Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013 – Axis 1 – Intervention Line 1.1.1.1. – Action B), with the support of resources from the European Union, the Italian State, and the Lombardy Region, the Protec Equipment Division has developed an innovative evaporator for the treatment of industrial wastewater.
This system is based on the use of solar thermal energy, which combines the known advantages of concentrating and distilling wastewater from polluting processes with a significant reduction in environmental impact and electricity costs.
The pilot plant developed to heat wastewater uses the heat produced by a solar thermal system, thus reducing the electricity consumption required to operate the evaporator.
Consider that evaporators typically treat 1,000-2,000 liters of water per day, and that evaporating one kg of liquid water requires 2.5 MJ (about 0.7 kWh or €0.1), releasing approximately 0.53 kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
This innovative system has reduced consumption by almost 50%, resulting in significant cost savings.
